On 17 March 1982, Jean-Pierre Adams, at the age of 34, was admitted to a Lyon hospital to undergo a routine knee operation under anaesthetic knock him out for a few hours. Tragically, due to his anesthetic being incorrectly administered, he fell into a state of Coma which he would be in until he passed in 2021.

Adams overcame many barriers from car crashes, a strict upbringing and moving to France from his native Senegal all before the age of 19. He then rose to fame through the leagues to ultimately represent France, to become 1 half of the "Garde Noire" alongside Marius Tresor, and a highly-regarded figure as a pioneer for French-African footballers.
